The damage to the concrete Spillway, which started as a large hole in the spillway, became larger (see below). It has caused the water to eat away at the spillway, its concrete walls, and the dirt hill to the right of the spillway. The first photo above shows how it should look.

Orovillle Dam 1


The EmergencyOverflow Spillway, to the left of the concrete Spillway. is doing what is supposed to do but there is so much water that it is digging into the rocks and dirt on the hill side. They are dumping rocks by trucks just below the right hand side corner of the emergency spillway. They are using helicopters to drop large rock filled bags at the right hand side of the spillway. The dam is twenty feet higher than the spillway.

The Emergency Spillway, to the left of the concrete Spillway, is oveflowing like it is supposed to do, but there is so much water that it is digging into rocks and dirt on the side of the dam. There is alsoThe dam itself is twenty feet higher than the spillway.
